Boost your restaurant delivery business with a summertime stroll down memory lane.

Many of us have strong memories associated with food, especially tied to certain seasons or holidays. Thanksgiving means mashed potatoes. The Fourth of July means hot dogs and popsicles. And every family seems to have their own traditions for New Year’s Eve.

Summer seems to be an especially potent season for food memories: family barbecues, burgers on the grill, you name it. But many people are hesitant to fire up the oven or the grill when it’s already so hot. As an RDS owner, you can help people relive those memories—and those meals—without having to cook a thing.

We’ve written before about summer being a bit of a slow season for restaurant delivery. This is a great time to bring in some new orders with a campaign promoting classic summer meals.

Classic summertime meals.

Start by figuring out which warm-weather favorites your restaurant partners offer. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Barbecue. A big spread of barbecued meats, plus all the sides.
  • Burgers. Maybe with fries or corn on the cob.
  • Fried chicken. In sandwich form or with a big spread of dipping sauces.
  • Summer salads. Potato salad, egg salad, pasta salad, coleslaw, and the other classics.
  • Messy summer sandwiches. Think pulled pork or sloppy joes.
  • Tacos. In some parts of the world, they’re synonymous with summer.

Next, talk to your restaurant partners about whether they want to help with the campaign. Maybe they’d like to put together a new combo, or you can collaborate on a special promotion. You could offer a free dessert or drink, like lemonade, for orders over a certain dollar amount. Or you could facilitate a combo between two different restaurants with complementary offerings.

It’s also worth asking your restaurant partners about order size caps. Can they handle a big order for a big family? If so, you can use that in your promotion!

Once you know what you can offer, turn on your creativity and start dreaming up a fun campaign. Focus your message on the value of classic summer memories without all the work. Barbecue without the mess, fried chicken without the oil. Really paint a picture for your customers.

Don’t hold back with the great photos! Ask your restaurant partners for the best pictures they’ve got of each dish you’re promoting. You might even check a free image site, like Pexels or Unsplash, for stock photos of families on a summer day. A picture can do a great job illustrating the feeling you’re trying to sell: Making memories!

Lastly, hit all your marketing outlets. Send out an email, and post on social media. Consider ordering a stack of flyers or postcards to include with every order you deliver. Be sure to include notes about whether you can take big orders and any promos you decide to run.
